Renovations and Additions

Project Profile - Altavista Home

Renovation - Altavista Home

This bungalow was built in 1957, and featured a loft area in the attic. This unique home was built with an entire cement first floor. Originally a brick and white-barn-board home, the exterior had not been renovated since the 1970s.

We gutted the entire home down to the core. Several interior walls were knocked down in order to open it up inside and give it a contemporary style. A bright open concept kitechen with island overlooks the living room, with floor-to-ceiling windows that span the entire back wall with a view of the rear gardens and inground pool.

We rewired, replumbed, drywalled and insulated the entire home from the basement to the loft attic. We re-did the master bedroom to have a luxury master bath ensuite, featuring a walk-in tiled shower and a soaker tub with jets. What was originally a three bedroom home on the main floor became a two bedroom home, but much more spacious and practical. A formal dining room was finished, ideal for entertaining. The loft was redone as a sitting room with access to a roof-top patio. The basement was fully finished with another bedroom with ensuite bathroom, a laundry room, mechanical room, workshop/storage and family room.

The barn board was removed from the exterior of the home, and the entire home was reclad in two tone stucco and new windows and doors to give the entire home a new refreshed up-to-date look.

Project Profile - Glebe Home

Renovation - Glebe Home

This home in the Glebe was originally built in 1923. We purchased it in 2004, and gutted it down to the bare bones. During restoration, we removed and replaced part of the roof, removed the old stucco, and restuccoed the left side. The entire home was re-wired, with 200 amp service put in place on the exterior of the home. All plumbing was redone, including reservicing the original radiator system for hot water radiant heat with a new high efficiency boiler. We completely re-drywalled the entire home and put in new bathrooms, kitchens, plumbing and electrical fixtures. We sanded down and restained the original hardwood flooring and original pine pocket doors.

For the exterior, we re-landscaped the entire property and built retaining walls in interlocking stone. The driveway was widened and paved. Acid washing the entire building brought it back to its original glowing red colour, and full grandeur of the 1920s.

An addition was put in place at the rear of the property, with fully insulated walls from basement to attic, and exterior brick was painstakingly ordered specifically to match the original 1920s brick. All mouldings were done in the same fashion as the originals, with high baseboards, crown moulding and solid wood doors stained to match the floor. What a beautiful transformation...
